On Tuesday 14 September Hilary Allen’s daughter, Jennifer Laws, will take us on a tour of the 43^rd Squadron air base just outside Port Alfred where she is a helicopter instructor and she will tell us about its history.

July General Meeting

Our monthly meeting for July is on Thursday 29th in the Library Hall, 10–11 am and our guest speakers will be Jeremy Fogg and Paul Walters who gave us such an informative and interesting talk about Olive Schreiner and her connections with Grahamstown. This time they will be telling us about Olive Schreiner in Rhodesia.

This course is being run by Francis Williamson who gave us such an interesting course on Ethics last year. This 4 week course will start on Tuesday 3rd August 10-11 am. The venue is the ISER Annex.

COMPUTER SKILLS

Seventeen members put their names down for the Computer course. We have now arranged for Andrew from Imaginet to take 7 members at a time from 5-6pm on a Monday and Thursday for a Beginners course and then, later he will run an Intermediate course. If you are still interested in doing the course please join us on Thursday 12th August at 5pm at the Imaginet Office, 16a Henry Street, where Andrew will be giving an Introductory Presentation giving the details of the courses he will be running.

August Outing

Our outing for August will take place on Wednesday 18th at 10.00 am in the Albany Museum where palaeontologist, Dr Billy de Klerk, will give us a fascinating insight into one hundred and ten million years of mammal ancestry in the Karroo basin.

Art History

Marijke Lewis is offering a three week course on Art History. This will take place in the Rennie Lecture Theatre at the Museum from 10 am to 11 am on Wednesday 25 August, Wednesday 1 September and Wednesday 8 September.

The topic for the course is ‘Following the path of Light through Art History’.

On Thursday 27 May 2010 Peter Mosley will give us a talk entitled “The school of hard rocks … 30 years of geology in Africa”. He is a geologist who in the last twelve years has worked with British Geological Survey on projects in Kenya, Zambia, Mozambique, Mauritania and Sri Lanka. Meet in the Library Hall at 10.00 am.
