On Thursday 8 May 2014 Lynette Paterson will be telling us about possibly the earliest known poem in Anglo-Saxon written (and no doubt sung and recited) when the Vikings were still in the ascendant in Northern Europe, long before 1000AD.  It is full of heroes and monsters and battles and derring-do, in magnificent poetry, in a language which nobody understands any more but from which our mother tongue is clearly descended.  Meet at 10.00 am in the Mullins Room at St Andrew’s Prep.
