Learning for fun
Information for your diary
We have lots of exciting courses on offer for you this year. Those of you who attended Marijke Lewis’ course on Art will be pleased to know that she has offered to do a follow up – on either the Impressionists, Architectural design or kitch art. This will be after June. Fleur Way-Jones has also offered to follow up on her course on the history of the buildings in Hill Street by taking us on 4 walking tours in the area. Eddie Baart will entertain and educate us on a course on the Universe, and Lil Haig has offered to relax us with a wine tasting course. Eddie will continue with his Arm Chair Travel for which we hope to get a bigger venue so that more of us can participate, and Francis Williamson has offered a course on the philosophy of religion or the philosophy of science – or both. He is also offering a basic computer course for those of you who have not moved into the 21 century yet – but who would like to do so. And Ron Hall will start the ball rolling in February with an introduction to poetry appreciation. Of course we also offer scrabble and music and a walking group is also on the cards. Nick Stavrakis is offering courses on geology, photography and hey – what about this – a whisky course during which we will learn the history of the industry and taste the goods! Our on-the-ball co-ordinator, Helen Crawford, has been out and about finding people who are willing to pass their knowledge on to us and in her in-basket are ideas for vintage film evenings, palaeontology, calligraphy and more. See you at the Library Hall on 28 January at 10.00 am sharp when Claire de la Harpe will entertain us with anecdotes gained while with Western Province Rugby and Stormer Super 12.
